Since WhatsApp privacy policy debacle, every instant messaging app that exists as a rival to WhatsApp is trying to make the best out of this opportunity and is introducing new features to steal users from the popular app. Telegram and Signal, the two rivals of WhatsApp have benefited the most from this situation.

To give users another reason to shift from WhatsApp to Telegram, the messaging app has now decided to allow its users to import their WhatsApp chats to its application. This feature is not for WhatsApp only, users from other messaging apps can import their chats to Telegram as well, as reported by WABetainfo.

Here is how you can import your chats from WhatsApp to Telegram.

Step 1: Users need to export their chats from WhatsApp from the chat actions options.

Step 2: After selecting Telegram from the iOS Share Sheet, Telegram will ask where you want to import messages to. You can choose your own chat (saved messages), a new group or any other chat.

After performing the two steps mentioned above, the imported chats of users and their media (if there is any) can be seen in the Telegram chat that you selected.

Every message that you import from a WhatsApp chat or other apps will be marked as “Imported” in Telegram. Previously, they were marked as “Forwarded”.

So far, this feature is only offered to iPhone users, as reported by WABetainfo, and is available on the App Store. However, the update is expected to be launched for Android as well.
